{He Says} Family Vacation: Don't Do It!!

My family and I just returned from a trip to Orlando, Florida, and I swear I'm more tired than before I left.  I thought taking two weeks off work to go on a family vacation would have been what I needed, but this being our first family vacation, man was I wrong.

My wife and I went on a vacation every year before we got married, hell I think one year we went away twice.  It was nothing but relaxation. We drank at the swim up bar, laid on the beach, and did what we wanted, when we wanted.

Then we got married and had a family.  Don't get me wrong, nothing makes me more happy than my wife and kids. Our son is 2 1/2 and daughter is 6 months old and I wouldn't trade anything in for the world.

I knew the vacation was going to be different but man was I in for a rude awakening! I thought that we all would go out for nice dinner's, hang out by the pool all day and when the kids took their nap my wife and I could sit on the balcony  with a nice cold beer (she'd have wine) and just enjoy each others company. It didn't go exactly that way.

If someone would have told me that my son would become a totally different kid, not listening, having tantrum's that I've never seen before and wouldn't take naps or sleep at night, I would have thought twice about taking a vacation!  By the time my wife and I were able to get the kids to sleep we were ready for bed too. I think that we had drinks only one night that we were there. Not to mention I totally didn't think to hard about my daughter only being 6 months old and couldn't really sit by the pool all day because it's too hot.  I think that's because I'm a man and I don't think about things like that (at least that's what my wife tells me).

I don't blame anybody but myself. My kids are so young. When we change their routine and comforts of home, why wouldn't they be mad.  I told my wife this was a good experience for us.  A good experience but an expensive one.  We now know what we need to do to get ready for a family vacation, mentally and physically.

When we got home we started talking about writing a blog about luxury things. Vactions, cars, clothes, everything and anything that we always wanted (as a family or the two of us) if we only had a few dollars more . . . OK a lot more money than we have now!

So here's my first blog post. While writing this all I could think of was the movie couple's retreat. You remember that movie!  It was filmed in Bora Bora, somewhere I've wanted to go but don't have the cash to even pay for the plane ticket lol. This is were I would stay!

Four Seasons, Bora Bora.
